About ILATEC
ILATEC C.I.C. is a Community Interest Company registered in England and Wales (Co. Reg. No. 15740699), founded in London by Latin American professionals with one clear goal: that no member of our community is left out of the UK financial system because of language, lack of information or fear.
The challenge
We face significant challenges for humanity, such as narrowing the gap in socio-economic inequality and reducing pollution and CO₂ emissions, to continue protecting and ensuring our planet’s survival.
Thousands of Latin Americans in the UK work hard yet face real barriers to financial wellbeing: they arrive with no credit history, the system operates in a language they are still learning, and financial education has rarely been part of their journey. The result is a community that saves less, invests less and pays more for basic financial services — precisely while the cost of living keeps rising.
Our response
We reduce financial stress and improve quality of life for the Latin American community through three complementary strands: financial education delivered in Spanish, research into the specific financial needs of our community, and the adoption of modern fintech tools for saving and investing.
Our team
ILATEC is led by its founder and Director, Santiago Miguel, a financial-sector auditor with 10 years’ experience and an MBA. Since our foundation, we have been supported by academic volunteers from leading UK universities — including Cambridge, Westminster and Greenwich — and we currently work with three active volunteers who help deliver our programmes.
Our methodologies and processes are reviewed by expert advisers from London’s banking and fintech sector. This ensures that everything we deliver is technically sound, professionally endorsed and grounded in the real financial experience of Latin American migrants in the UK.
We combine professional financial expertise with lived experience of migration — we have faced the same barriers our community faces.
